TRADITIONAL USAGE OF ALCOHOL
Markets
There are two main markets for ethyl alcohol:
- “Traditional” alcohol markets: these include the drinks industry, in which the term “alcohol” suffices unto itself, and many other applications and markets in the food industry, parachemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and industry for example.
- The biofuel market, in which it is referred to as “bioethanol”.

Applications
There are five main applications for ethanol:
- As an ingredient in food products, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics,
- As a solvent,
- As a biocide,
- As a raw material in chemicals, pharmaceuticals etc.,
- As fuel.
