Syndicat National des Producteurs d'Alcool Agricole

THE ASSOCIATION OF FRENCH ALCOHOL PRODUCERS

OUR BACKGROUND

L

The SNPAA was founded in 1989 to represent the entire agricultural alcohol industry, by way of merging two former syndicates specialising in alcohol made from sugar beet and molasses respectively. The merger has placed the new syndicate in a better position to support industry developments, with the introduction of cereal-based alcohol production, where sugar beet had hitherto been the only crop used.

The French decree dated 22 January 1988 put an end to State intervention in alcohol production.

With the SNPAA, the agricultural alcohol industry has demonstrated its capacity to come up with solutions, whether seeking new raw materials or signing special contracts with beet farmers.

In recent years, the SNPAA has acted as a major stakeholder developing the use of ethanol as a fuel added to petrol. This new market is now driving new growth in the agricultural alcohol sector. Industrial capacity tripled between 2005 and 2010 with the rollout of five modern distilleries, further to investments of over a billion euros.
